In 2009, VECTOR (a District 287 transition program) saw the need to provide its Deaf, DeafBlind and Hard of Hearing students with job search skills training, high-quality paid internships and competitive job placements. The VECTOR program asked MEC to house an OCS team member within their program. After a successful pilot project, the partnership began in earnest, and to date, the MEC/VECTOR partnership has helped over 200 students find and maintain employment.
With the addition of legislative funding to support statewide transition services in 2015, the MEC/VECTOR partnership began working with students from across the state. We currently have a full-time OCS team member dedicated to the project. The leadership team is presently planning services for the next two years – continuing to provide and fine-tune existing services while developing new experiences for the students we serve.
